Ten Years From Now, No One Is Going To Care How Quickly The Books Came Out. The Only Thing That Will Matter, The Only Thing Anyone Will Remember, Is How Good They Were. That's My Main Concern, And Always Will Be.

There Are A Number Of Things That I'm Trying To Get Into The Books. There's A Meta-fictional Aspect, If I May Use That Pretentious Word, To Writing Anything. You're Writing In The Shadow Of All The People That Have Gone Before And, In A Way, You're Having A Dialogue With Them. As Someone Who's Read J.r. Tolkien And Robert E. Howard And All The Great Fantasists Before, This Is Almost My Answer To Them.

The Vast Majority Of Writers Out There, They Finish Their Books And No One Cares Whether Their Book Is Late Or Ever Comes Out At All. And Then It Comes Out And Two Reviews Are Published And It Sells 12 Copies.

So Many Vows … They Make You Swear And Swear. Defend The King. Obey The King. Keep His Secrets. Do His Bidding. Your Life For His. But Obey Your Father. Love Your Sister. Protect The Innocent. Defend The Weak. Respect The Gods. Obey The Laws. It’s Too Much. No Matter What You Do, You’re Forsaking One Vow Or Another.

A Lot Of Fantasy Names Are Too Much. They’re Too Difficult To Pronounce. I Wanted The Flavour Of Medieval England. I Took Actual Names We Still Use Today, Like ‘robert’, And In Some Case I Tweaked Them A Little Bit. I Made ‘edward’ Into ‘eddard’. If You Look Back At Medieval Times, No One Knew How To Spell Their Own Names. There Are A Lot Of Variations That We’ve Lost.
