When The Healthy Nature Of Man Acts As A Whole, When He Feels Himself To Be In The World As In A Great, Beautiful, Noble, And Valued Whole, When Harmonious Ease Affords Him A Pure And Free Delight, Then The Universe, If It Could Experience Itself, Would Exult, As Having Attained Its Goal, And Admire The Climax Of Its Own Becoming And Essence.

There Is A Great Difference, Whether The Poet Seeks The Particular For The Sake Of The General Or Sees The General In The Particular. From The Former Procedure There Ensues Allegory, In Which The Particular Serves Only As Illustration, As Example Of The General. The Latter Procedure, However, Is Genuinely The Nature Of Poetry; It Expresses Something Particular, Without Thinking Of The General Or Pointing To It.

The Useful May Be Trusted To Further Itself, For Many Produce It And No One Can Do Without It; But The Beautiful Must Be Specially Encouraged, For Few Can Present It, While Yet All Have Need Of It.
