I Entrust This Twenty-second World Day Of The Sick To The Intercession Of Mary. I Ask Her To Help The Sick To Bear Their Sufferings In Fellowship With Jesus Christ And To Support All Those Who Care For Them. To All The Ill, And To All The Health-care Workers And Volunteers Who Assist Them, I Cordially Impart My Apostolic Blessing.

People Have To Struggle To Live And, Frequently, To Live In An Undignified Way. One Cause Of This Situation, In My Opinion, Is In The Our Relationship With Money, And Our Acceptance Of Its Power Over Ourselves And Our Society.

We Ask For Peace And Freedom For The Many Men And Women Subject To Old And New Forms Of Enslavement On The Part Of Criminal Individuals And Groups.

Are We Capable Of Bringing The Word Of God Into The Environment In Which We Live? Do We Know How To Speak Of Christ, Of What He Represents For Us, In Our Families, Among The People Who Form Part Of Our Daily Lives? Faith Is Born From Listening, And Is Strengthened By Proclamation.

The First Reform Must Be The Attitude. The Ministers Of The Gospel Must Be People Who Can Warm The Hearts Of The People, Who Walk Through The Dark Night With Them, Who Know How To Dialogue And To Descend Themselves Into Their People's Night, Into The Darkness, But Without Getting Lost. The People Of God Want Pastors, Not Clergy Acting Like Bureaucrats Or Government Officials.
